Podcast

podcast This is the link to the podcast that Thom, Shell, Kathryn, Crystal, and myself made. We had a lot of fun making this and hope you enjoy it. We discussed all of the weeks of Blue 2.0 and things that we liked and didn't like. Overall I learned a lot of stuff. Making the podcast was easier than I thought but getting it uploaded was difficult. As I say in the podcast, one of the best things that happened during the Blue 2.0 experience is that I created a blog for my daughter, Hannah, who is 6 weeks old. I probably wouldn't have made one if I hadn't have had to make this one first. I also won an ipod shuffle. THANKS Blue 2.0.

Social Networking

I have been using Facebook for about a week now and I like it. My Facebook address is http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1192892599. I have uploaded a picture and added about 9 friends.

I have also signed up on MySpace and until tonight was unable to commit to an url. However I finally decided on http://www.myspace.com/radioheadbamafan. I like MySpace but so far I feel that Facebook is easier to use.

I also joined http://wastecentral.ning.com/ Waste Central Network at Ning. This is a cool Radiohead site. I am glad I found this place. Right now I think I really like Ning and Facebook better than MySpace but with my limited use it is hard to tell for sure. I am pleased to be part of a group on Ning that enjoys Radiohead so much and it has a great deal of Radiohead information. It seems that Ning has a more immediate impact for beginning users. It will take a while for me to develop a MySpace and Facebook network, however it seems that in the long run Facebook and MySpace may be more rewarding. Right now my Ning experience seems to be more like a regular website with a chatting feature but it does have lots of other features like videos. However I believe most of the videos can be found on YouTube.

Well that is all of the Social Networking assignment. I still have to do a Podcast. Maybe tomorrow night. Once I have done the podcast I think I will have completed all the assignments for Blue 2.0. It has been fun!!!

Flickr

I just posted 3 pictures on flickr. It was really easy to post the pictures. I will invite some of my friends to view the pictures. Now it is time to work on my podcast.

YouTube

After viewing about 7 videos on YouTube, I finally found one I liked pretty good. Most of the ones I saw were not really very helpful if used and some that I clicked on were just plain too long for this exercise. One was more than 70 minutes long. I think this video could be better but it was more of what I was looking for. It was a video that basically explained what services were available at the library. I liked some of the humor in the video. They showed viewers their facilities and introduced their staff. I think this could be cool to watch if you lived in this town and knew these people.

I liked what the video that was 7o minutes was doing. This video was a presentation on 2.0 technologies and how to incorporate them into the library. I actually will probably watch this at a later time but not right now. I have not really thought of YouTube as a way to broadcast a presentation to anyone and now that I have this idea, I think it is extremely useful. I have watched some webinars on educause and this could be very similar although you don't have the live chatting feature.

Play WeekI

Tonight I created an account at Wikipedia, but after looking for errors on numerous pages, I did not notice anything to change. However, Wikipedia is really neat. It is amazing how so many people come together and write so much useful information. I know that it is not an authoritative source but it appears to be mostly accurate when I have used it. Now that I have an account when I find something to correct I will fix it.

I also used two of the photo generators but I really didn't come up with anything great. I liked some of the effects from the Photo Spread Effect Generator including the bubble and lightning effect. I looked at some of the e-cards on Letter James and may send one of them on someone's birthday. I often send free e-cards from Hallmark or some other website. I thought the Warning label Generator was really neat and I made one that I think is fairly funny. I did notice one error with the site. It often cuts off the last letter that it will let you type in.

I also played with one of the games listed in the award winner section. I liked Guess-the-google. It pops up a group of images that all relate to one key word and you try to guess it. It is fun.

Soon I plan on trying some of Second Life. More on that later.

Hannah Kaitlyn Hall

Earlier this week I completed the Del.icio.us bookmarks. I think it is neat that you can share your favorite sites with other people and can be used in the library as reference pages. A library could bookmark pages that tell things such as how to do citations in MLA or other formats. You could have a link to dictionary.com and your own OPAC. Google Docs is really neat. I haven't looked at this a great deal yet but I feel that this is a very useful social tool.

I have just finished tagging 5 websites. I tagged some of my favorite sites. Yahoo!, an Alabama Football page, Ateaseweb(a Radiohead page), a videogame website, and of course Blue 2.0's webpage. I also added Connected Libraries to my Network.

Wiki

I forgot to mention a few things. One is that wikis can be extremely useful at work; we have one. It is amazing. We use it to act as a manual for how to zone articles in the Daily Racing form. It also has a place to inform everyone when we will be absent. We have many other uses for it also. My wiki's website is

Wiki

I just made a wiki, but I feel that it would be a better blog. My wiki's name is thedailywiki and I want people to tell stories that have happened to them in there daily life. However it seems more like it should be a blog so I am thinking about making it this blog's theme. What do you all think? Input would be greatly appreciated, and if you have any great ideas for a wiki please post a comment.

I have just finished making my page on bloglines. Signing up is easy and getting the blue 2.0 web page added was also easy. I have found the page's presentation to be a little confusing. One of the feeds i subscribed to is about cats. I haven't got to look at it a lot yet, but so far I have noticed several very cute pictures.

end of second week

Well it is the end of our second week of Blue 2.0, and I have enjoyed working on this. It is great that we are getting to use theses tools. Many of my co-workers have never made a blog until now. It seems that everyone is having a good time and enjoying it. We have been asking each other a lot of questions, and we have learned a lot from each other.

Well I had a little more trouble with AIM. I accidentally put in my email address as my screen name and have quickly discovered that master screen names, which apparently is the first one you sign up with, cannot be deleted or changed. Other than this mistake, signing up for aim was quick and easy. I don't really know anyone's screen name on AIM but I will soon. This can definitely be used for work. In a large office area, instead of walking over to someone or calling them, you could quickly send a person a quick IM question. I liked that AIM even had a c0-workers tab. I have never used aim before but have used ICQ and others. Thanks for reading.

Creating my blog was fairly easy. I think I will change my blog's name once I come up with a topic other than this being my first blog.
